Spelling Offers Missing Piece of the Literacy Puzzle. When you think about the co-winners of the National Spelling Bee. Early this summer, that trophy did not come naturally. Those participants spent hours a day studying phonics, word meanings, word histories, and spelling patterns in English derived from other languages. All students, even those who will never reach national competition levels, need the same kind of explicit spelling instruction in school to be proficient readers and writers.

Diams; October 21, 2012. Traditionally this was to assist with the potato harvest. First up, we did the bus tour, so the girls might get an appreciation of the key features and landmarks. Clearly, they took this very seriously. The Tower of London even provided an unanticipated entrant into the toilet tour of Europe. In the ladies, the walls were ador.

Monday, October 22, 2012. Bryndi turned 6 on September 16th. She had a Chef Party. Each girl got an apron upon arrival. We made our own pizzas and cupcakes. Brooke, Brooklyn, and Bella. I am so bad at breaking out the camera. We got a few good pictures though! Bryndi got this cute little poodle from her cousins, so Richard made her a doghouse. Yeah, she likes to hang on the fridge.

We lost momentum on this blog, and created another one about our 5 months in Copenhagen. That one dried up in October, as the cold closed in and we moved house a lot of times, then ultimately packed up everything and came back to 148. And how happy we were. Never having been a summer enthusiast, I have wallowed in warmth this year.
